Portrait of Maha, 17, Sport for All Program Participant, Cairo, Egypt
In Cairo, thousands of refugee children grow up too fast, deprived of spaces to simply be children. Maha, 17, is one such example: solely responsible for her two younger brothers since fleeing Eritrea, for a long time she knew only survival and responsibilities. One day, following her friend onto a sports field, she rediscovered the right to play.
“I have a big love for sport, and I have a passion to be a football player; one day, I want to represent myself and my country. I am very optimistic, and I believe we could reach everything we want; it is just a matter of time”.
